Collaboration work across York addresses mutual challenges
As we move to a monthly newsletter, rather than weekly, I have more news than usual about what’s happening here at Nimbuscare.
As you will know, we’ve been driving collaborative working across our 11 GP Practices for some time. In addition to our joined-up work through Clinical Directors, the PCN commercial leads meet twice a month to share learning, and best practices. They discuss how we can all work together to improve care across the patch, working as one.
Chaired by our Commercial Director Zulf Ali, it has made excellent progress in many areas, such as technology alignment. The group has been addressing challenges such as how cost of living impacts on salary expectations, as well as providing strategies on commercial matters. It acts as a support structure to resolve mutual challenges. Five Commercial leads, one from each PCN, attend the meetings which were originally set up during the pandemic.
This group is crucial to driving change through Nimbuscare, PCN’s and GP Practices, as well as supporting each other along the way. It is currently looking at financial challenges and how we can address these matters, whilst improving services. The idea is, where possible, that we move as one. More details on this group’s activities can be found here.
We’re just a few weeks away from the NHS 75th birthday on 5 July and I would like to invite GP Practice, hospital, council, voluntary, business and community sector colleagues and partners to join us and our local residents at Acomb Garth to mark this important date. I will be writing to you personally with more information on this event. It really doesn’t seem five minutes since we marked the NHS 50th birthday celebrations and lots has happened since then.
This month we welcome a few new members of staff (see below) and say goodbye to some senior members of our team who have played a huge part in our development. In particular, at the end of this month we will see our Director of Internal & Corporate Affairs Dr David Hartley, retire as a GP after 35 years and he will be standing down from his director role with us. After a short break, David will be back in touch I’m sure. You can read about his long career here.
We continue to explore new services where we can work ‘at scale’. From 1 July I’m pleased to announce that Nimbuscare will be managing the York Integrated Community Team (YICT) set up by Priory Medical Group to help people get fast access to care and support by providing a central point of access to health and social care services for York patients. We very much look forward to leading this service and its excellent team.
In addition, we are still looking at details around a community diagnostic service in York and I hope to be able to tell you more about how this will work next month.
Awards success
Congratulations to retired Nimbuscare nurse Liz Davis who has been shortlisted for two awards.
Liz was shortlisted in the ‘Carer’ category for the BBC Radio York Making a Difference Awards. More than 11,000 people were nominated for these annual BBC awards.
She has also been shortlisted for the York Press Community Pride ‘Health Service Hero’ award. The finalists for both awards will be announced in September.
Staff changes
Later this month we will be welcoming a new Clinical Manager/Educator to support clinical learning.
Welcome to Nicola Jobling and John Dobson who have joined the Acomb Garth reception team.
Nathan Agnew will be supporting us as General Manager at Acomb Garth where he now be based, in the absence of Lucy Hakings who is now on maternity leave. Congratulations to Lucy on the birth of her baby.
We say goodbye to Head of Operations Louise Woodhouse (pictured left) who leaves us to take up a role as Practice Manager in Driffield, as well as administrator Ali Watson who is joining the team at the British Library. We wish them both the very best.
Thinking differently about disability
We’re now a ‘Disability Confident Committed Employer’. This is a scheme which asks us to think differently about disability and take action to improve how we recruit, retrain and develop disabled people.
