New Community Musculoskeletal (MSK) Service to be launched at Nimbuscare’s Acomb Garth Community Care Centre
Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions account for around 30 percent of GP consultations in England. Nimbuscare is working with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundaiton Trust to address the high demand for this type of service by joining with local GPs to launch what has been described as a ‘groundbreaking new service’ for local people.
People with painful muscle and joint conditions are normally seen by their GP, then directed to the most appropriate treatment and care. This may mean they are referred to hospital for a further consultation with a specialist physio or orthopaedic service.
Due to the pandemic, these patients are waiting longer, sometimes many months longer than normal. During this time some of these patients may struggle with their pain and their condition may deteriorate further.
Nimbuscare will be addressing this issue by seeing patients first. People will be sent direct to the Acomb Garth Community Centre to be seen by clinicians.
Dr Daniel Kimberling, Nimbuscare’s Medical Director, explained: “We know that some of these patients feel they are stuck in the system or just in between care, so we are really pleased to be launching a support service that joins up the care journey for these patients.
“Patients with specific joint pain problems will be asked to come to our clinic. We will examine and assess them. If necessary we will advise on pain relief, exercise or refer on for extra support. We may also offer specialist injections to relieve any pain if appropriate.
“This is a great thing for patients and is another example of how we are working collaboratively across the City to give our patients the best possible care, as we work to recover from the impact of the Covid pandemic here in York.”
